  Weird memorial talk?

  my book study conductors study must have been sleep cuz he was pissed when they made him pass the bread then he didnt want to touch the wine, and ran out of the hall.

  How much more so would you benefit from being upbuilt by a vareity of spiritual food.

  It would be more accurate to replace "spiritual food" with bullsh*t. A variety can be very beneficial. Some bullsh*t has corn. Some is filled with hay. Other varieties contain berries or native grasses. Yes, taking in all the bullsh*t we offer year-round is sure to result in abundant blessings.

  this week i mentioned how i never saw the movie "ghost" because it was considered "demonistic".

  i also volunteered that that i could not watch "bewitched", although "i dream of jeannie" was a conscience matter......any thing you didn't watch because you were a witness?

  I still haven't seen any of the "Ghostbuster" movies. Just saw "Platoon" for the first time. Anything rated R that came out before '94. The list goes on and on.

  it's a great opportunity to show the dubs just how little influence they actually have.

  This is the first year I've purposely skipped the memorial. I gotta tell ya, it feels really good. It's a great opportunity to show the dubs just how little influence they actually have. Sure, I've been ignoring all the calls and visits from the elders since leaving, but that could all be chalked up to circumstance. Avoiding the memorial is a deliberate demonstration of defiance. This is all old hat to many of you, I'm sure, but as a first-timer it's full of meaning and a marker of personal growth. Maybe next year will bring the same reflection, I don't know. What I do know is that none of this would be possible without the support of the members of this forum. You've been a shelter from the storm of leaving an all-consuming cult. I thank you all.

  Which was scarier... the torture scenario or the Armageddon scenario?

  for those of us who grew up in the jw's, there were a couple of scary scenarios presented, one supposedly to happen before armageddon, and armageddon itself.. before armageddon, all jw's were going to be chased around by worldly nations because they would be the only religion left on earth, satan's system having destroyed "babylon the great" (all religions outside jw's, we were told).

  so as part of that, jw's would be persecuted worldwide for being religious and proclaiming the "kingdom".. now -- connect that with the actual persecution that happened to the jw's as documented in the annual "yearbook" and in the pages of the watchtower magazine.

  sometimes the details of what happened to jw's when in confinement were quite graphic and frightening.

  The trib was definitely scarier to me, as a born and raised JW. Armageddon actually seemed exciting. I clearly remember the day I asked Mom about the trib, at 8 years old. What a horrible thing to put into people's minds.. One can only guess at the damage such a belief does to a young, impressionable child. How could any child entertain such a belief without severe mental scarring? Sickening!

  Prince Streetwitnessing?

  my line manager from work got back from holiday in hollywood on sunday, and all day at work yesterday he was telling us all about it.

  on his tour of beverley hills he had princes mansion pointed out, but was told that the singer didn't live there anymore, but had bought a bar on sunset boulavard instead and could be found outside it everyday giving out religious leaflets.

  and sure enough, when he went down there, prince was standing on the street talking to people and giving them religious leaflets.

  This is a dream come true for any die-hard Prince fans. It's like having a lifetime backstage pass. Just go to L.A., find Prince on the job, pretend to be interested, ask for a study, and there you go. Prince has to spend an hour a week with you. Now you pack up and move there, tell him you don't drive, and he'll give you rides to the meetings and, when you qualify, field service! What good JW wouldn't make sure their bible study made it to the meeting? You could even sit next to him at assemblies. Imagine hearing "To God We Are Dedicated" as sung by the Purple One.

  Being weak in the truth or just less interested

  often the witnesses will say that someone is weak in the truth, if they don't do as much as the others.

  i don't think that they use the right expression, because someone could just be less interested in these things, but not weak.

  no one likes to be labeled "weak", so i wonder if this is not another way the watchtower has to make someone feel guilty, so that we will do more, just to be accepted by the others in the congregation?

  Good point, JH. Some people are just not as interested in spiritual/religious matters, even within the JWs. Of course, that attitude doesn't move mags and boost the numbers, so low-hour publishers must be negatively labeled.

  Your "Swan Song" is truly inspiring. I know I will reread it as needed. Truly the most moving, positive, touching thing I have read in a long time. As a recent escapee, I stand in a pile of crumbs and fragments that used to be my life, and sometimes it seems that I'll never be normal enough to live a useful, vital existence. All the normal growing experiences of youth were repressed, and I feel as if I'm 10 years old sometimes. Thank you for showing me that there is still a chance to live a full life. I wish you all the best, brother.
